Okavango Delta, Botswana July 2009

Africa is like no other place on Earth. It truly is the most remarkable, unpredictable, intriguing wonderland of life, death and everything in between. I never imagined such a place existed in all the world. I am sitting in my tent in the middle of the Okavango Delta deep in the heart of Botswana. Looking out my back screen is Africa. I am in a desert, yet the wetlands of the delta sparkle the trees and shrubs with the richest green colors I have ever seen. The life of these wetlands are never sleeping. I am in the land of the always awake. Unfortunately, I have to sleep…but not a lot. I stay awake for as long as I can just listening to the sounds of the life around me. I fall asleep. I wake up to the snorting of a hippo, the grunt of a hyena, the bark of a wild dog, or a trumpet of an elephant. Sounds of the wild are all around me. This is the real place where the wild things are.
